ICAR-IIWM participated Farmers' Fair at ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack


ICAR- Indian Institute of Water Management (IIWM) actively participated in the "State level Kisan Mela" organized at NRRI, Cuttack on 26 Feb 2019. The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh inaugurated the Kisan Mela. The Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Sri Dharmendra Pradhan graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education and DG, ICAR addressed the farmers, scientists and extension personnel and lauded their role in enhanced agricultural production. One exhibition stall was installed showing posters and models in respect of important technologies developed by IIWM. Leaflets and folders on agricultural water management were distributed to farmers and technical bulletins were available at the stall for reference by the interested farmers and personnel from extension agencies/NGOs. The institute also participated in the Kisan Gosthi and Farmer-Scientist interaction. About 100 farmers were mobilized by IIWM from the Farmers First Project site in Keonjhar district and National Initiative for Climate Resilient Agriculture site in Dhenkanal district for participation in the in the programme. One woman farmer Mrs Mina Mahanta of village Khuntapingu, Block Saharpada, district Keonjhar was awarded the "Best Farmer" award for her innovative role in using and popularizing sprinkler irrigation in vegetable cultivation. Dr S.K. Rautaray, Principal Scientist, IIWM coordinated the participation of IIWM in exhibition stall and Farmer-Scientist interaction.
