An awareness-cum-demonstration programme on Balanced Use of Fertilizers (BUF) was organized on 20th May 2026 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Bhakarasahi village under Balipatna Block of Khordha district, Odisha, under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) programme. The programme was conducted by Dr. S. Mohanty, Dr. Prativa Sahu, Dr. Ankhila R. Handral, and Dr. Mohammed Shafeeq P.M., with the active participation of 57 farmers, including 18 women farmers. Scientists discussed the importance of balanced nutrient management for addressing declining soil fertility and rising cultivation costs, highlighting the role of organic amendments, composting, crop residue recycling, pulse-based crop rotations, bio-fertilizers, and efficient fertilizer use in sustaining soil health and crop productivity. Practical demonstrations were conducted on the use of Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Trichoderma, phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), potassium-solubilizing bacteria (KSB), nano-urea, nano DAP, and green manuring with Sesbania (Dhaincha). Farmers were also trained on simple methods for multiplying beneficial microbial cultures using cow dung-based organic media, and scientists addressed farmers’ queries related to sustainable nutrient management practices under local farming conditions.
