A sensitization and farmer awareness training programme under the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” was scheduled on 12 June 2026 at Talajanga village in Puri Sadar block in Puri district. The programme aimed to promote climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices among farmers in view of the forecast of below-normal rainfall during the current cropping season. A total of 13 progressive farmers including 5 female participants were participated in the programme. The scientist of the institute interacted with the farmers and provided practical guidance on efficient crop and water management strategies. The training focussed on the balanced use of fertilizers, promotion of green manuring and vermi compost for improving soil health and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. Farmers were also advised to adopt short-duration paddy varieties and low-duty crops that require less water under anticipated moisture-stress conditions. Emphasis were given to various water conservation measures, including rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation practices, and in-situ moisture conservation techniques to enhance water use efficiency and ensure sustainable crop production during the season.
