A farmers’ sensitization and awareness programme under the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” was organized on 15 June 2026 at Chandanpur village of Puri Sadar Block in Puri district. The programme was conducted to create awareness among farmers regarding climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural practices in anticipation of the forecasted below-normal rainfall during the current cropping season. A total of 24 progressive farmers actively participated in the event. Scientist from the institute interacted extensively with the participants and shared practical recommendations on scientific crop planning and efficient water management to minimize the adverse impacts of possible moisture stress. The programme highlighted the importance of balanced fertilizer application, green manuring, and the use of vermi compost for maintaining soil fertility and reducing excessive reliance on chemical fertilizers. Farmers were encouraged to cultivate short-duration paddy varieties and other low water-requiring crops to cope with the expected rainfall deficit. Special emphasis was placed on adopting various water conservation and management practices, such as rainwater harvesting, efficient irrigation methods, and in-situ soil moisture conservation measures. These interventions were explained as essential strategies for enhancing water-use efficiency, improving crop resilience, and ensuring sustainable agricultural production during the forthcoming season.
