Description:

An awareness-cum-demonstration programme on Balanced Use of Fertilizers (BUF) was organized on 18 June 2026 at Amanakuda village, Balipatna Block, Khordha district, Odisha, under the Government of India’s Khet Bachao Abhiyan. The programme was conducted by scientists from ICAR–Indian Institute of Water Management (ICAR-IIWM), Bhubaneswar, including Dr. S. Mohanty, Dr. R. K. Mohanty, and Dr. Prativa Sahu. The programme witnessed the participation of 60 farmers, comprising 27 women and 33 men. Mr. Dhananjaya Singh, Regional Manager, Indian Potash Limited (IPL), Shri Rabindra Kumar Swain, President, ATMA Krushak Parishad, and the former Sarpanch of the village also attended the programme. During the programme, farmers were sensitized to the importance of balanced fertilizer use for sustaining soil fertility and improving crop productivity. The scientists highlighted integrated nutrient management practices involving chemical fertilizers, organic manures, crop residues, and biofertilizers, along with the use of Soil Health Cards for site-specific nutrient management. Nutrient management practices for horticultural crops and the role of secondary and micronutrients in enhancing crop yield and soil health were also discussed. Farmers were encouraged to adopt crop diversification, residue recycling, and efficient input management to improve farm profitability and sustainability. Field demonstrations showcased the preparation and application of biofertilizers and organic nutrient sources, including Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Trichoderma, PSB, KSB, vermicompost, FYM, nano-urea, and Sesbania (Dhaincha) for green manuring. Discussions were also held on sustainable fisheries management practices, including pond nutrient and water quality management. Information on composting and eco-friendly farming practices was shared to promote efficient resource utilization.
