An awareness-cum-demonstration programme under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan was organized on 19 June 2026 at Mahitala village under Chhendipada Block of Angul district, Odisha. A total of 74 farmers (37 women and 37 men) participated in the programme. The event was graced by Smt. Pranati Pradhan, Sarpanch, Shri Satya Narayan Majhi, Samiti Member of Natada Gram Panchayat, and Shri Mohit Mohan Biswal, Educationalist. The programme was conducted by Dr. R.K. Mohanty, Dr. S. Mohanty, Dr. Prativa Sahu, and Dr. Md. Shafeeq. During the programme, the scientists emphasized the importance of balanced nutrient management for maintaining soil fertility, enhancing nutrient use efficiency, and reducing cultivation costs. Farmers were sensitized on sustainable agricultural practices such as composting, crop residue recycling, pulse-based crop rotations, application of organic amendments, biofertilizers, and efficient fertilizer use for improving soil health and crop productivity. Discussions were also held on fisheries management, focusing on pond water quality, nutrient management, and scientific feeding practices for improving fish productivity and sustainability. Practical demonstrations were conducted on the use of Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Trichoderma, Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB), Potassium Solubilizing Bacteria (KSB), nano-urea, nano DAP, vermicompost, Farmyard Manure (FYM), and green manuring with Sesbania (Dhaincha). Farmers were also trained in the multiplication of beneficial microbial cultures using organic media. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion during which farmers shared their experiences and received scientific recommendations for improving soil health, nutrient use efficiency, and long-term agricultural sustainability.
