As part of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan, an awareness-cum-demonstration programme was conducted on 22 June 2026 at Nuapada village under Balipatna Block of Khordha district, Odisha. The programme was led by Dr. R. K. Mohanty, Dr. S. Mohanty, and Dr. Prativa Sahu. A total of 62 participants attended the event, including 33 men and 29 women farmers. The programme focused on promoting balanced fertilizer use, integrated nutrient management, and sustainable agricultural practices for improving soil health and crop productivity. Scientists interacted with farmers on the judicious application of fertilizers and emphasized the importance of integrating chemical fertilizers with organic manures, crop residues, green manures, and biofertilizers. The significance of Soil Health Cards for site-specific nutrient management was explained, along with the role of secondary and micronutrients in maintaining soil fertility and enhancing crop yields. Farmers were also encouraged to adopt crop diversification, residue recycling, and efficient input management practices to improve farm profitability and long-term sustainability. Hands-on demonstrations were conducted on the preparation and application of biofertilizers and organic nutrient sources, including Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Trichoderma, phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), potassium-solubilizing bacteria (KSB), vermicompost, FYM, nano-urea, and Sesbania (Dhaincha) for green manuring. Information on composting techniques, eco-friendly farming approaches, and sustainable fisheries management practices, particularly pond nutrient and water quality management, was also shared. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion during which farmers raised field-level issues and received scientific guidance on improving nutrient use efficiency and soil health management.
