A collaborative Health Awareness and Medical Check up Camp was organized in the IIWM-Farmer FIRST Project adopted Jamujhari tribal village of Khordha on 13th December 2025 in collaboration with AIIMS, Bhubaneswar to observe the ‘International Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day’, a global annual event to advocate for equitable and affordable healthcare for all, marking the anniversary of the UN's 2012 resolution for UHC as a development priority. At the outset, Dr. Sumanta Kumar Mishra, Principal Scientist & PI, and Dr. Hemanta Kumar Dash, Principal Scientist & Co-PI welcomed the AIIMS medical team and sensitized the participants on the importance of maintaining family health, healthy lifestyle, early detection health disorders and regular health check-ups. The programme was aimed to address common health issues in rural communities, promote preventive healthcare practices and to provide basic medical services to farmers and their families at their doorstep. An eight-member medical team led by Dr. Niraja Guru, Assistant Professor from the Department of Community and Family Medicines, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar conducted general health check-ups, screening of diabetes, blood pressure, random blood sugar, body mass index, age and gender specific health issues and provided need-based medical consultations, and distributed essential medicines free of cost. The camp focused on accessing the benefits of various health welfare schemes of government, health insurance facilities, general health awareness, health complications, early detection of diseases, prevention and treatment strategies. The medical team educated the participants on nutrition, personal hygiene, sanitation, prevention of seasonal illnesses, and lifestyle-related disorders. They were also sensitized on the importance of balanced diets, cleanliness, and timely medical care to prevent long-term health complications.The camp witnessed active participation of about 100 villagers of various ages across gender, who got benefited and appreciated the initiative as a valuable resource in remote tribal areas with limited access to healthcare. The programme demonstrated the project’s commitment to holistic rural development by integrating health awareness with livelihood and social well-being. The camp concluded successfully with strong community engagement and effective coordination by project staff namely, Ms. Isha Anindita Sahoo, SRF and Mr. Firoj Kumar Pradhan, Field Assistant contributing to improved health awareness and overall well-being in the adopted village.
