Training Programme on Enterprising Mushroom Cultivation organized on 13th January 2026

Description:

A skill-based training cum demonstration programme on “Enterprising Oyster and Paddy Straw Mushroom Cultivation for Higher Family Income and Nutritional Security” was successfully conducted on 13th January, 2026 at Chanrapada village of Nimapada block in Puri district under the Scheduled Cast Sub Plan (SCSP) Project. The training was attended by 57 enterprising farmers and youths from five nearby adopted villages. In his opening remarks, Dr. Bira Kishor Sethy, Principal Scientist and PI/Nodal Officer, SCSP discussed on enormous health benefits of both oyster and paddy straw mushroom as amazing nutritious foods and how farmers can become self reliant by adopting mushroom farming as a business module. Dr. Sumanta Kumar Mishra, Principal Scientist and Co-PI/Member, SCSP discussed on climate suitability for mushroom cultivation in Odisha and its promotion for income generation among farmers, rural youth, women and self-help groups (SHGs). He added, mushroom cultivation is a low-cost, eco-friendly agribusiness option with high market demand and quick returns. Dr Mishra also imparted practical knowledge and skill on oyster and paddy straw mushroom cultivation and demonstrated step-wise practices along with necessary management and care of beds for mushroom cultivation with the active involvement of participants. Over 210 nos. oyster mushroom spawn bottles with required polythene bags were provided to all participants. At the end, Mr. Santanu Kumar Sahoo, Field Assistant proposed vote of thanks.
