ICAR–Indian Institute of Water Management (IIWM), Bhubaneswar organized an Awareness-cum-Demonstration Programme under the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan (KBA)” on 25 June 2026 at Rambhadeipur village of Jagatsinghpur Block, Odisha. The programme was attended by 55 farmers, including 42 women and 13 men. The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. A.K. Nayak, Principal Scientist and Dr. Ranabir Chakraborty, Scientist. The programme focused on promoting sustainable agricultural practices, efficient utilization of natural resources, and scientific nutrient management to enhance farm productivity and profitability. Dr. Nayak explained the objectives of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan and emphasized the importance of conserving soil and water resources for long-term agricultural sustainability. He also demonstrated the use of digital platforms for accessing reliable agricultural information. Dr. Chakraborty highlighted the benefits of soil-test-based fertilizer application and encouraged farmers to use Soil Health Cards for balanced nutrient management. He also stressed the role of secondary and micronutrients in improving crop yield and fertilizer-use efficiency. Farmers were advised to adopt eco-friendly farming practices, prepare indigenous organic formulations, and utilize locally available resources to reduce cultivation costs while maintaining soil health. In addition, the importance of integrated nutrient management and regular soil testing was emphasized for achieving sustainable crop production. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion during which farmers shared their concerns related to soil fertility, fertilizer use, pest management, and crop production. The scientists addressed these queries with practical recommendations and encouraged participants to adopt climate-resilient and scientifically proven farming practices for improving productivity and income.
